UPDATE: Universal Studios Fire Causes Explosion

Firefighters are battling a huge fire on a lot at Universal Studios, trying to stop it spreading to nearby buildings.

A large fire that erupted at Universal Studios film company in Los Angeles caused an explosion. There were no immediate reports of injuries, according to Frank Reynoso, the Los Angeles fire captain.

Reynoso said filming could have been going on at the time and that there had been at least one explosion.

Frank Reynoso, a Los Angeles fire official, said that the fire began on a sound stage on a back lot at the 230-acre filming site.

Now the firefighters are working to ensure the flames would not spread to the surrounding area. About 100 city and county firefighters rushed to help studio firefighters tackle the fire. For a time, firefighting helicopters swept in to drop water.

Daryl Jacobs, the Los Angeles county fire inspector, said at least one building had burned and as many as three blocks of movie facades were destroyed.
