Radiation Traces Found in British Embassy in Moscow

Small traces of radiation were found at the British Embassy in Moscow; there's no danger to the public, it was revealed.

Experts have found small traces of radiation at the British Embassy in Moscow, adding that there's no health risk to the public, an embassy spokesman said today.

The radiation traces were found during a precautionary check of the British Embassy. "The Embassy is working as normal. There is no cause for concern," embassy spokesman said, refusing to indicate what kind of radiation had been found or give any further details.

Same day, Andrei Lugovoi, a key witness in the radiation poisoning case of former Russian agent Alexander Litvinenko, announced he will not meet with British investigators until the doctors who perform his medical checks for radiation poisoning, Russian news agency ITAR-TASS reported. Scotland Yard detectives will meet with Lugovoi either tomorrow or Friday.

British police told TV channel Sky News Wednesday that they will investigate Litvinenko's case as a murder, given preliminary results of the forensic examination.

Traces of polonium-210 which was used to poison Litvinenko were also found in a dozen sites in London and on British Airways aircraft flying the London-Moscow route.
