Arab League, Palestine Angry over UN Veto

The draft resolution on Israel was very balanced, said Arab League's representative to the UN.

The Palestinian Council and Arab League expressed their anger at the United States for vetoing a UN resolution that condemned Israel for its attacks against Palestine.

The veto paves the way for Israel to continue military actions and shows support by the United States of Israel's actions, showing "a signal that the US had given legitimacy to the massacres and a green light to Israel to carry out more massacres," Palestinian spokesman Ghazi Hamad said. [1]

The draft resolution on Israel "was very much in balance," said Yahya Mahmassani, the Arab League's representative to the UN, "It called on both Israelis and Palestinians to stop all military action."

"We do not believe the resolution was designed to contribute to the cause of peace," US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice said, following the veto.

In response, Arab League lifted financial sanctions against Palestinian Authority and started making payments to support Palestinian economy.
