Miley Cyrus Breaks Out to Number One in Charts

The Vanity Fair issue featuring 15-year-old star’s controversial photos proved to be the magazine’s highest seller thus far this year.

Miley Cyrus makes her “Breakout” from the “Hannah Montana” persona a number one hit, claiming the top spot of the Nielsen SoundScan chart, selling an impressive 371,000 copies in the week ended July 27.

Miley Cyrus' success represents the second-biggest sales week of the year for a female artist, following the 463,000 entrance of Mariah Carey’s “E=MC2” in April.

Miley Cyrus’ previous album, “Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus,” also broke onto the charts at No. 1 last July, by selling 326,000 copies.

The first “Hannah Montana” soundtrack, which set Miley off in her recording career, also headed up at No. 1 two years ago, with first-week sales of 281,000.
